Karen managed Hacienda Business Park's award winning Transportation Management Association for 10 years, and co-authored the City of Pleasanton Transportation Management ordinance which became a model for employer sponsored transportation programs nationwide.
She developed the marketing plan for the business park's transportation services, coordinated with various ridesharing and transit agencies to promote services, initiated the Hacienda shuttle service, developed marketing campaigns, created marketing materials, motivated employers to promote transit services, helped negotiate the joint powers agreement between local transit agencies servicing the business park, served as chair of the Pleasanton Transportation Task Force, planned bus stop locations at the largest office park in Northern California, consulted on the design of the Hacienda Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station and negotiated the contract with BART for transit serve to the park prior to train service.
Before joining Hacienda, she worked for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in the San Francisco Bay Area as the liaison with Bay Area employers providing training, marketing advice, and materials to develop and promote employer sponsored Transportation Management Programs. She wrote the Carpool Handbook and Commute Alternatives Manual to guide employers' marketing efforts, and won an award from the Santa Clara County Manufacturers Group for her services to employers and impact on reducing traffic.
